Environment Las Americas co-led the Bolivian implementation of the 2006 Global Stop Climate Change Day, organizing 400 marchers in Cochabamba and over 100 in La Paz, ending in front of the US embassy to protest the fact that the United States still has not signed the Kyoto Protocol. In preparation for the event, Environment Las Americas staff appeared on three national television stations and over twenty local radio and television stations to discuss climate change.
Environment Las Americas became the largest mass-based environmental organization in Bolivia in 2006.
1,200 attended Environment Las Americas' free showing of Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth' in December 2006. Approximately 400 more had to be turned away when the theater reached capacity.
Environment Las Americas succeeded in slowing the amount of trash-burning that occurs in its neighborhood by lobbying for and receiving a government-sponsored sign prohibiting the practice.
The Bolivian Constituent Assembly's Subcommission of the Environment incorporated our Environmental Constitutional amendment proposal into their own. Our language has also become integrated into popular dialogue on the subject.
Our constitutional amendment proposal received 18 letters of support from different social, political, and environmental organizations. Read the campaign's summary.
